Last Saturday I messaged my friend Ben to see what he was up to.
His response, "Come over, were tattooing each other."
I arrived a short while later with my partner to find a familiar dining room converted into the cleanest stick-and-poke tattoo parlour I have been privy too.
Thus 'Hobo Express tattooing' was born.
Ben was well into his tattoo, but really feeling some pain. His girlfriend Noelle jokingly turned to us and said, "he's being a bit of a bitch."
All kidding aside stick-and-pokes can be pretty uncomfortable. To start the gauge of needle is way thicker, it's very different from a tattoo gun which usually has 7 or more very tiny needles. With stick-and-poke you must have the needle go into the skin at least 1mm to have the ink set. So if you choose a tender location the discomfort can be pretty constant.
With a few shots of whiskey to numb the pain, Ben made it to the end with a pretty awesome new piece of ink.
