Street shots: Look up, look waaaay up

September 20, 2013 in Street Shots

I've heard it said (and found it to be true) that when searching for images you should remember to look behind you, often there are amazing moments just at your back.

While this photo doesn't fall exactly into that category, none the less I thought it was strange and interesting to look up and see a lone tree peeking over the top of a building in downtown Toronto.

I wonder how many people in that building know it exists.

A pedestrian waits the storm out.

flash storm 07-19-2013

August 29, 2013 in Stuff

August 13, 2013 I was having dinner with friends in Waterloo preparing to leave when it began to rain. The trickle quickly became a torrential downpour on a scale the region had not seen for quite some time.

As the power went out and rain began to fall sideways, I stood outside capturing images. I had my Fuji X100s on me, not the most waterproof camera, but I worked under the camera's constraints as best I could.

Soaked but satisfied I walked away with 5 images I really liked.

In the works

August 23, 2013 in Stuff

I have a new business card in the works and looking for feedback.  After looking around I have decided to go with the card company Moo using their mini card size. If you haven't heard of them head on over and have a look. They have pretty competitive pricing and some different options outside of the common business card shapes and sizes.

Outside of having a non traditional size I plan to use a heavier card stock to give it some weight and raised font if I can afford it to make the card stand out. After some help from a friend I was able to identify the type of font on the front page of this website (varela round if you happen to be interested) so the card matches perfectly.

Or does it? I've decided to go with simplicity over a complex design or having an image but what do you think? Am I wrong, does it need a splash of colour or an B&W image?

Appreciate any feedback.

Street Shots: Long Awkward Hug

August 19, 2013 in Street Shots

Coming home from an evening out in Toronto I noticed this couple in an embrace. After about a minute it became apparent there was no intention of ending until the bus got there, which at that point was close to 10 minutes away.

The young woman beside them seemed to be doing her best to ignore the PDA to her right and her expression is what sold me on making an image.
