This week I spent a whirlwind 24 hours with a lovely Canon 135mm L series lens in my hands. It was a day I will not soon forget.
Jose's show signals the launch of a new collaboration between the gallery and its associate Blue Moth Creative.
Peach Fashion will be a new series of fashion based exhibits coming to the gallery in 2014.
Monday evening's launch was an exciting event, to see all the images click here.
I'd never shot with a 135mm prime before so I was really excited to see how it would perform. None of the images below have been cropped and were all shot at f2 with the camera set to aperture priority (AV). This is not something I do lightly. I don't like my camera thinking for me but since I wanted to test with the lens wide open I thought it best to let the camera control my shutter.
I'm not disappointed with the result at all. The lens itself was rather light, which was nice as something like the 70-200 f2.8 is amazing but can wear on you after a few hours of shooting. Subject isolation and f2 looked fantastic and creamy, and the bokeh was wonderful. I didn't have many problems with auto focus, a fail here and there but otherwise it was fast and accurate even when tracking moving objects.
Overall it was a great rental choice and reminded me how badly I miss having a telephoto.
Below are test shots and some roaming I did before returning the lens on Tuesday.
The last image is a teaser from Jose's show.
