Whenever I visit Halifax, regardless of the weather, there needs to be a minimum of one trip to the ocean.
The sound of the waves crashing into the beach, the ever-present smell of salt in the air, the raw power of nature associated with the ocean and its affects on the weather are strong memories from growing up a maritimer.
So with all that in mind, it seemed like the perfect place to take Dan and little Sloan for a photo shoot on a warm January afternoon. Surly Sloan will share similar sentiments about the ocean as she grows up, its a hard pace to avoid in Halifax and an even harder place to dislike.
Furthermore Sloan is still pretty young and the last thing she wants to do is sit for a posed portrait session. As evidence of this most photos Dan is holding her, which was the only way we could get her to stop moving. So the beach was a great place to take her, plenty of room to run and things to explore!
Kids and animals are similar to photograph in this respect, you let them do their thing for the most part, have some patience and you will walk away with images that reflect their personality.
I'm happy with the way the images turned, it was a beautiful day and a great location to let Sloan do her thing, and have fun with her daddy. Hopefully our next shoot will be in the summer and see us hitting the water in a little sailboat!
